CDC, What’s the Deal?

Reporters-and-false-reportsThe CDC, or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has never been totally on board with e-cigarettes, though lately they have been on a tear to keep smokers from transitioning. While it is clearly understood that as a major institution for the international health community, they cannot back anything without scientific reasoning, it is rather astounding that they would choose to be so certainly adamant about users not using electronic cigarettes.

Currently, they are negatively targeting the industry by producing negative advertisements and trying to urge people from using these devices by wrongfully associating electronic cigarettes with tobacco products. While to the naïve or those who are not aware, e-cigarettes do not contain tobacco, and even though they work similarly, enabling users to have an alternative nicotine delivery device, these products do not belong in the same category as tobacco cigarettes.

The CDC furthers their misinformation by saying that alternative cigarettes should be avoided because the long-term effectiveness, safety, and results are yet to be seen. And yes, they may not have a long-term evidence to prove anything, positive or negative, simply knowing that they do not contain the thousands of toxic chemicals cigarettes do, and the fact that there is no tobacco, is enough of a reason to use them for most smokers who have switched over.

Any responsible electronic cigarette company in any aspect of this niche market would not promote their product in a way that guarantees safety, cigarette cessation, or any kind of not scientifically backed fact. While the industry is just around a decade old, millions of smokers have turned to e-cigarette’s in an effort to get away from tobacco.

As part of this industry, we feel it is our responsibility to provide unbiased research, information, and electronic cigarette news for those who are interested in knowing more about the products in the industry, how things work, research as it gets published by institutions and about how these products are helping smokers successfully live lives of better quality.

Even without proof and long-term studies and research, the majority of these people who have switched to vapor have done so because they have found a great number of benefits in doing so. And while the CDC continues with these cheap shots and scare tactics, smokers who are aiming for other ways to go about things will continue to turn to smokeless electronic cigarettes as an alternative.

How E-Liquids and Cartridges Create Repeat Customers

sbs flavorsFor retailers who are used to the sales of tobacco cigarettes which easily created generations of repeated customers and the need for customers to continuously return to purchase the product, the fact of electronic cigarettes being reusable may seem like a business failure by comparison. However they are anything but. While they happen to be a reusable product, with a very reusable format, these traits only make them more socially responsible. Alternative cigarettes work with cartridges and e-liquids, which are the portion the product that the consumer actually consumes, and this usage creates a need for the customer to return to purchase refills.

E-cigarette cartridges last anywhere between 1 to 2 packs of traditional cigarettes. They’re more cost-effective for the user because of this, and they go a lot longer than single-use packs of cigarettes. They create less waste and as an added benefit they are available in a multitude of different flavors to please the customer. They offer a great amount more control than traditional cigarettes being available in a great variety of nicotine levels, including 0mg (nicotine free) to 24 mg. Consumers have endless options of different choices to fulfill their needs by using them.

E-liquids typically work with vaporizer tank systems as well as with refillable cartridges the user can use, depending on their device. They are available in even more flavors and the many customizable preferences give the user even more ability to have their exact specifications met. Brands such as VaporFi and South Beach Smoke make this readily available with their Custom Blending option, and users have been overwhelmingly satisfied as a result.

As a retailer, you have options beyond tobacco that offer lucrative possibilities. Both cartridges and nicotine e-liquids have become quite popular as of late and can help make up for the loss of profits you’ve seen due to dwindling cigarette sales. With more and more people using alternative products such as these, coupled with the fact of customers needing to find top-quality options, the range of products available from IVG can benefit your retail selection immensely.

Hitting the Big Time in the UK

UK e-cig-regulationsElectronic cigarettes are used worldwide, and restrictions vary from place to place. This week brought big news coming from the United Kingdom this week on the subject of e-cigarette advertising laws.

In the UK, e-cigs are now being featured in television ads. While this may not seem like a big deal, as electronic cigarette advertisements have been on TV for a few years, actually showing devices in use was banned until a recent change in laws was enforced on Monday.

The UK’s Committee of Advertising Practice ruled in favor of electronic cigarette advertising as long as advertisements adhered to strict codes that tobacco not be shown “in a positive light.” This is a perfect compromise for the e-cigarette industry, as electronic cigarettes do not contain, support, or advertise tobacco in any manner.

Here are some of the explicit guidelines the Committee of Advertising Practice has requested:

  • They must not be “likely to appeal particularly to people under 18, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture.”
  • They must not encourage non-smokers to use e-cigarettes.They must make no claims that e-cigarettes are “safer” or “healthier” than smoking tobacco.
  • They must not make any health claims without approval from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

Consumers as well as those involved in the e-cigarette industry in the UK are quite pleased with this turnout. Those involved with the industry are excited about the change in laws, and feel very much that this is a small victory, as e-cigarettes become increasingly mainstream, common items.

This exciting e-cigarette news is precisely an example of the sort of common sense regulations that are both intelligent, and enable electronic cigarettes to receive the type of attention they deserve. Considering that they are products made to be used as alternatives to traditional cigarettes, it is a great step in the right direction.

E-Cigarettes & Taxes

uncle-sam-taxesThere has been so much talk and rumors abound for a while regarding e-cigarettes, ranging from what sort of regulations we will be seeing from the FDA, and what the government plans on doing about taxation. We all know this has been a hot button issue for so many reasons, as electronic cigarettes and other alternative smoking products have completely changed the landscape of smoking. Here’s what is presently occurring in the US regarding taxes on e-cigarettes, and what we can expect in the future.

Many e-cigarette users fear that their popularity will encourage lawmakers to seek higher taxing of the products due to their displacing of traditional cigarettes, which have always brought in millions upon millions of dollars. This would drive the price of the products up in a drastic way, making them unaffordable to many. To this point, cities and states have been on their own to decide how electronic cigarettes should be taxed. Some have instituted excise taxes, however there is still pressure from lobbyists, anti e-cigarette groups, city and state policymakers, among other special interests groups who are seeking to tap into the ability of taxing electronic cigarettes in the same manner as traditional cigarettes.

The problem with that, however, lies in the fact that alternative cigarettes are not tobacco products, and they contain no tobacco. Many sates, such as Hawaii, Utah, and Oklahoma, have attempted implementing taxes, but they have been met with failure. Other states are still contemplating such moves, seeing the immense potential of bringing in billions of dollars.

While the future remains to be seen, it seems as though taxation is going to be inevitable in some way or another. Like all forms of profit, taxes are just part of the big picture, however we can only hope that things are done in all fairness.

Tobacco Companies Acknowledge Electronic Cigarettes

how-Electronic-cigarettes-workPhillip Morris International Inc. is the world’s largest publicly traded tobacco company. Responsible for many brands including being the manufacturer and seller of Marlboro cigarettes, even they are feeling the effects of electronic cigarettes hitting mainstream status.

Tobacco companies, particularly Phillip Morris International Inc., have begun to acknowledge the fact that tobacco cigarette sales are being impacted by the rise of electronic cigarettes as the population changes. While they are making note that fluctuations are inevitable, the international tobacco market is seeing an overall decrease due to the increase of alternative cigarettes. Users are simply moving away from tobacco, either quitting smoking outright, or switching to alternatives that offer more options and a less tainted image.

In addition to the lagging sales and the overall depreciation of profits, Phillip Morris is also factoring in a loss of $495 million that has come in the way of the impending closure of their production facility in the Netherlands. This is a result of the decreasing sales in their European market due to less people smoking. And it’s not just their European market where they are seeing a decline in sales, their Asian market has also reduced as well.

There is no getting around the fact that electronic cigarettes are not only becoming immensely popular everywhere but they’re having an incredibly overtaking effect on the traditional cigarette market considering they are sparking worldwide declines. It’s interesting that the largest tobacco companies are beginning to publicly recognize this, despite it being obvious for some time now.

Paralleling the declines of tobacco sales, Phillip Morris recently acquired Nicocigs LTD, an electronic cigarette company based in the UK. They are not the first tobacco company to do so, as Lorillard and Altria have already extended into this competitive market.

The bottom line here is that tobacco cigarette companies are fully aware that electric cigarettes are not going anywhere, and continue to expand at an exceedingly fast rate. Vapor is here to stay.

Cost: a Huge Reason E-Cigs are so Successful

cs2One of the best reasons to consider the many financial incentives to carrying electronic cigarettes and vaporizers in your retail stock is that they offer one very promising benefit to customers: saving money. While many retailers have seen drastically lower sales in tobacco cigarettes and products in recent years, especially since electronic cigarettes have taken such precedence, e-cigs have enabled business owners to capitalize on the growing movement, as well as offer products that are in demand, and add revenue in areas where they were seeing declines.

Traditional cigarettes are extremely expensive, and most smokers spend over $2000 yearly on the habit. Saving money is one of the most obvious reasons smokers look to alternative cigarettes, and most are extremely pleased with how much they save over time.

While they are very cost effective for users, they also happen to be very lucrative for retailers. They present a variety of different products that fulfill the needs of smokers, offering an extensive range of different items that appeal to a wide range of different smokers, from e-cigarette disposables, to standard e-cigarette starter kits, advanced vaporizers, e-liquids, refill cartridges, and additional accessories that users want and need. Whether users are vaping with disposable units, standard e-cigs that require cartridges, or are using e-liquids with their advanced vaporizers, they will consistently come back to where they purchased their products for more. And even still electronic cigarettes are less pricey than traditional.

Electronic cigarettes offer a great sales opportunity for retailers, and they fill a need that is ever growing. International Vapor Group brands offer great wholesale opportunities to retailers, and the very best quality e-cigarette products to customers; all at enticing prices. These products are seeing such success because everyone on both sides of the sale are benefitting. If your retail selection is lagging behind in this area, feel free to contact us about wholesale opportunities! We are the forefront of this industry, and offer a variety of exciting ventures.

New E-Cigarette Study: Gateway to Freedom, not Smoking

julia_louis_dreyfus_e_cig_a_lIn a recent study done by the Harvard School of Public Health, assessing 26,500 smokers across Europe found that according to their usage, electronic cigarettes are not a gateway to tobacco by any means. As expected, and as most users would explain, the researchers found that those who use electronic alternatives to cigarettes turn to the products to get away from tobacco usage, and not the other way around.

This study was the largest ever of its kind published in the EU, and it revealed that merely 1% of nonsmokers had tried an e-cigarette type product, also representing that the products do not appeal to nonsmokers, and that they have very little allure to those who are not interested in smoking in general. 20% of smokers in the study had tried an electronic cigarette product at least once, while 4% of former smokers had tried them. An overall estimate from the Harvard study puts the number of people in the European Union who have at least tried e-cigarettes at 29 million.

While the researched showed that the majority of e-cigarette smokers were young, in the 15-24 age bracket, it also revealed that they were all previously heavy smokers who were looking for an alternative to tobacco usage.

One of the leading professional voices in the international medical community who supports electronic cigarette usage, Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos, a cardiologist at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre in Athens, Greece commented on the findings of the study as further proof that electronic cigarettes are not attempting to renormalize smoking. He stated that the products are not drawing in nonsmokers, as the findings of this study prove that nonsmokers have little interest in adopting usage. Current smokers see them as an alternative to tobacco, and that is the general consensus of how they are perceived.

As e-cigarettes grow in popularity, they have become a hot button subject in terms of public health. In a report done by Public Health England in May, and recently when an international committee of scientists urged the World Health Organization to consider their stance on e-cigarettes very cautiously as they present a very valid opportunity in terms of public health issues in helping smokers veer away from tobacco use, more and more research and advocacy is coming to light in favor of e-cigarettes and the options they provide to assist smokers. As this study, and surely more in the future will show, electronic cigarettes are having a very positive impact on smokers throughout the world.

CVS Plans to Dropping Cigarettes

CVS-Pharmacy-01Recently, major retailer CVS Caremark announced that they will no longer be carrying tobacco cigarettes and products in any of their locations. In an effort to refine their image, and fulfill a more healthful outward appearance, the major national pharmacy chain stated that as of October 1, 2014, they will discontinue all sales of tobacco, making them the first major national chain pharmacy retailer to end their sales of tobacco.

Based on the revenue of prescriptions, CVS is the nation’s largest pharmacy. This move will affect all 7,600 CVS locations, and is expected to create a possible loss of $2 billion yearly. Despite this however, CVS is holding to their commitment. The single largest contributing factor that lead to this decision was the Affordable Care Act.

In our view, regardless of the financial toll, we applaud CVS for taking such a bold stand against tobacco. This move has been praised by both the American Medical Association as well as President Obama, a former smoker himself.

CVS has long maintained that prevention is the most effective health initiative, and the company believes that carrying tobacco products is not in line with their mission. CVS’ competitors, such as Walgreens, do not plan on discontinuing tobacco products, however interestingly enough, we believe that CVS should take a cue from companies such as Walgreens whose offerings include alternatives to tobacco, such as electronic cigarettes.

E-cigarettes are entirely different from traditional cigarettes, and Walgreens is among many major national chains to carry them. Providing an alternative option would benefit CVS immensely, and doing so could possibly help recover some of the sales they will be losing due to their ending of tobacco sales. As they are a pharmacy, the majority of their sales are not directly stemming from tobacco sales.

With the number of people smoking continuously on the decline, it only makes sense for retailers to expand in new directions, take new stands on products they do not agree with, and change with the times. As leaders in the electronic cigarette industry, we understand this need for change as well, and applaud CVS for standing up for the health of their customers.

Who Smokes Electronic Cigarettes?

ELECTRONIC CIGARETTESWhen it comes to electronic cigarettes, there is a large demographic. Millennials seem to be choosing e-smoking over traditional tobacco cigarettes, however the age range for electronic smokers covers all ground. Suffice it to say, if you want to know who is using alternative cigarettes, it’s everyone! Here is a look at the different groups of people who have found them to be even better than the real thing, and have made the switch.

Former Smokers

Nearly all electronic cigarette smokers are former cigarette smokers. Their reasons for switching run the gamut- some wanted to be done with tobacco altogether, some wanted a more affordable option, some prefer the ability to enjoy the sensation without smoke or nicotine, others list all of the reasons above for switching. And whatever their reasoning, e-cigarettes have given millions of people more of what they want out of life and their smoking habit.

Older Folks

The older people get, the more imperative it becomes to drop the cigarettes. It’s no secret that we are more susceptible to life threatening ailments like heart disease, diabetes, and many types of cancer when smoking cigarettes. Seeing this, and wanting to go an alternative direction, aging people understand the importance of finding other options to smoking, and many are happy to trade their tobacco cigarettes for electronic.

Younger Folks

While health reasons become more of a threat to the aging population, cigarettes can cause illness no matter what your age. As you know, people have many reasons for switching to electronic cigarettes, and regardless of age, most adults are interested in living a better quality of life and investing in their health.

College Students

College students often smoke cigarettes. They are also notoriously short on cash. Many campuses are not fond of cigarettes, even instituting bans on smoking altogether. This has lead many students to invest in e-cigarettes, in an effort to enjoy their nicotine in a more cost effective, tolerable, modern and enjoyable way.

Celebrities

Getting noticed, and being proud to flaunt their e-cigarettes, celebs have been a part of the vapor cigarette movement since the start. Hollywood’s trend setters can always be counted on to inspire others, and they sure have done their part to promote electronic cigarettes since the earliest days; especially since tobacco cigarettes make them look so passé.

So who is smoking e-cigs? Just about everybody! Millions of people all over the world have switched, so if you are wondering who your target demographic is for e-cigarette sales, it’s as varied as those who smoke cigarettes! If you want the best possible way to reach them, our advice is to carry a well-rounded selection of electronic cigarette products that cover all ground.

Why Are Electronic Cigarettes the Better Alternative to Tobacco?

e-cigarettes-vs-tobacco-cigarettesFor both users and retailers, electronic cigarettes are becoming the more sensible alternative. They offer a lucrative endeavor for retailers who carry traditional cigarettes and tobacco products, and smokers continue to choose them over cigarettes. Here is a look at why e-cigarettes are the better alternative, whether you are using them or selling them.

For users: Everyone has become overwhelmingly aware over the past century how dangerous cigarettes are. Not only bad for the health and inconvenient to use, they are also exceedingly expensive. For consumers, it was only a matter of time before a legitimate alternative was developed. E-cigarettes have proven to do just that, and smokers have taken to them by the millions. They offer a nearly identical experience as smoking a cigarette, without the vast number of problems associated with cigarettes. There is no tobacco, no tar, no ash, and no smell. They come with or without nicotine, in varying amounts, as well as numerous flavors. Smokers are finding tobacco cigarettes to be immensely old fashioned and wasteful by comparison; saving money, having modern devices, and much more ability to use them simply make e-cigarettes the better choice for smokers.

For retailers: Electronic cigarettes represent the future of smoking enjoyment. Cigarette sales and use have been on the downfall for decades and with e-cigarettes more than picking up the slack, retailers who are on this bandwagon are wise to do so. This is not just merely an emerging market, it’s a quickly expanding market proven to have high growth, as sales reach more than $1 billion. As it has become evident that consumers are happy to switch to these products, and stay with them, it only makes sense that tobacco retailers cater to their needs and expand their businesses further with electronic cigarettes. Consumers want choices; e-cigarettes offer them in mass variety. Why lose sales when they are there to be made?
